Rice to the Rescue…
This week I have another “have to share” with you guys!
So a few weeks ago when I was super sick with strep throat I was watching TV just before bed. When I turned my TV off I, in my fever-stricken-state, thought I put the remote control on the night stand.
So what shock and horror when I woke the next morning to see my remote submerged in my glass of water!!!!!!!!!!
OH NO! I tried to turn it on, but of course… nothing, it was dead!
Then I had a light bulb moment. I remembered a few weeks back that I caught the tail-end of a news story about how you can possibly save a cell phone that has been dropped in the toilet. I thought this might work for my remote.
So… want to know how???
RICE!
The reason for rice is that it will absorb the moisture.
So I took my remote and put it in a pie plate and poured rice on top till the remote was completely covered.
Then I just let it sit for 24 hours.
Now… I have to admit I was a bit skeptical that this easy fix would work… but it did!!!
I had to reprogram the remote… but it works!
So before you ditch that toilet soaked phone or water submerged remote… give rice a chance!
I had to do this when my son tried to wash his camera! The flash still won't work but at least it's dry now!
What a great tip. Hopefully, I'll never have to use it, but it's good to know just in case.
Three cheers for rice!!!
WOW! I had no idea!
LOLOL! What a hilarious story, Maryann! But good to know! 🙂 I'll save this info for any future fevers I may get….. lol!

Great idea! You can also put drowned electronics in a ziploc with several of those silicate ("Do Not Eat") packets that come in shoe boxes, etc. Sucks the moisture right out. Worked like a charm for me on both an ipod and a blackberry. :/
Also – just wanted to let you know that I spent (wasted?) about 2 hours on Wordle yesterday after reading your post. Loved it! Thanks!
Oh that is so funny. What fevers do to us! Glad it worked for you, I'll keep it in mind.
awesome! this trick is one of those that all moms need to know for when their kids put their phones in the toilet or, like you in a fever-stricken state, submerge it themselves. i had never heard this, so thanks so much for sharing!
Yea! I love great advice! And I am so happy that you rescued your remote… and happier that you are feeling better. Great post all round!!!!!
