My first ladies night out in over a year was ruined last night at Home Depot in Valdosta GA. We had all signed up together to go make this beverage stand. I called that morning to find out if there would be a charge or if we needed to bring anything. They told me to go by what the website said. Their website had it listed under the Free Workshops Do It Herself tab. When we got there Clint (named so on his apron) had already built a red table and ask us to put our names in the bucket. He then drew a name out and thanked us for coming. He had been told by the store manager that was all he had to do.
Needless to say 13 women disagreed with him. We asked to speak to the manager. She (Ashley) very condescendingly explained that customers do not get to Actually use tools in the store that it was a demonstration and lottery only. Several of us explained that the DIY workshops exactly allowed hands on and that she was mistaken. She then passed the buck to the Store Manager who was not there. I called the 1-800 number to complain. Ashley then got two more employees Dave and Matt to help Clint cut wood for the tables.
We thought good job here we go and then those employees were instructed to build out tables for us and give them to us. Clint, Dave and Matt (again the aprons told us who was who) worked very quickly. They were polite to us. They were not to blame for this debacle at all. I dont know who dropped the ball at our Valdosta GA store. Some women said they were going to get their paint at lowes. When I called the 1-800 number the operator Kanisha put me on hold and called the store then got back on the phone with me to explain to me that there was no workshop only a demo and that even though we had e-mail confirmations of registration for the WORKSHOP, WE were having a misunderstanding. I asked Kanisha if she had seen the website and she said no but that the store manager had explained what was happening. Kanisha was done with me. I told her this is not how the workshops are supposed to work but she just kept saying “Have a nice day and thank you for your call.” I was furious. I was hurt. Most of the women left talking about how next month we could all go to Micheal’s ( a local craft store ) for the workshop there. I like Home Depot though. I went home and looked up pictures of the other women across the country who got to build their projects last night. ( I googled DIY beverage stand Home Depot) There they were. With tables sat out for them to work on. One place posted that there was a $38 fee for the class because of the bucket and paint I assume. But our store could have made the same post. Instead they pissed off 13 very loyal customers. Since customer service didn’t care I thought maybe someone could clue out store in on how the modern world treats competent women. Valdosta needs to join the rest of the country. Just saying.
