DIY Photo Booth
Hello again! In case you’ve missed my previous posts over here at Domestically Speaking, I’m Kristie from The House on Stanford. I’m SO happy to be back! I love sharing my creations with you. In my free time, in addition to blogging, I volunteer at my Daughter’s school (she’s in kindergarten). I love being able to help where I can, and I especially love when I get to combine volunteering and blogging. It’s win win! This past week we had a “Sweetheart Dance” at the school. It was a night for the entire family to dance and have a great time together. One of the main attractions was a photo booth made by yours truly. Because the PTSO was purchasing all of the items for the photo booth, I needed to keep costs low, but I wanted to still have all the bells and whistles.
What you’ll need:
Curtain rod/tension rod
curtains
paper
ribbon
pins
props
I started by seeing what we could get donated. A fellow PTSO Mom had some black curtains that fit the bill. Once I knew what color the main background would be, I made a plan. I decided to make strands of hearts to hang vertically on the curtains. Because this was for the school, I had access to the schools workroom/copy room, so I used the di-cuts to cut out a TON of hearts.
I had some pink ribbon sitting in a drawer that I pulled out for my heart strands. I used sewing pins to hold the ribbon in place so we weren’t married to pink ribbons stuck to the curtains.
Using hot glue, I added hearts to all the ribbons.
Originally I was thinking of using a tension rod to hold the curtains for the backdrop, but we needed to place our photo booth on this brick wall. I found an old curtain rod and hung it with the ever popular Command hook.
Because this thing was going to be potentially trampled on my Elementary students all night, I used 4 hooks along the length of the rod for extra strength.
At this point all we needed were some good props. At 50% off I just couldn’t pass these up at Hobby Lobby.
In addition to the props from Hobby Lobby I brought an old frame that I painted pink for families to hold, and a bench from my yard. Because I figured not every picture would be a closeup, I added an old black sheet, found at goodwill, to the floor so the color would be cohesive with the backdrop.
That was it, and I must say, it was a HUGE hit! The kids thought it was awesome…and I did too I guess.
*FYI: I had to force Anna to take a picture with me at the dance. What a stinker!
Informative and interesting Blog! Beautifully written, as usual, I like the post. Thank you so much for nice sharing with us. Keep posting!
Very cute! This backdrop really added some personality to your photo booth. I’ll have to try this, thanks!
This looks really easy and like it could be set up anywhere! I love the hearts. Thanks for sharing!
Wow, this is so crafty and creative! I absolutely love the idea of a cute back drop for photobooth style pictures and the props are absolutely perfect! Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful creation!
