A to Z A New Anniversary Tradition

Thanks for Sharing!

Last summer the Hubster and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary.  We’ve never been big on necessarily getting the “recommended” gifts, but I wanted something to commemorate the 15th year.   In the months prior I looked up what the “tradition” and even “modern” anniversary gift ideas were for the 15th year… Crystal and Watches!   I’m not big on crystal, other than maybe a pretty chandy and I never wear a watch and neither does the Hubster.

A to Z Anniversary

It’s in those places of frustration that inspiration strikes.  The Hubster came up with a great idea that we did last year for our anniversary and we’re making plans right now for our 16th anniversary that we will celebrate on July 4th.

Here’s how it works…. Your 1st anniversary you are working with the letter A, your 2nd anniversary the letter B and so on.  So last year when we were celebrating our 15th anniversary we were working with the letter O.

So the A to Z Anniversary tradition is to plan everything about your anniversary around this letter.

So for the letter O…

  • we went away for the weekend down to Oceanside, CA
  • we ate at Outback Steakhouse and I ordered onion rings
  • the Hubster bought me an orange, oval opal for a gift.
  • we walked along the ocean

Depending on your budget and time you can go as creatively crazy as you want or enjoy a special few hours out.  I created this cute printable so that we can document our anniversary fun.  You can click on the A to Z Anniversary image above to get the free printable to use too.

This year we’ve got the letter P.  If there was no limit in our budget we’d spend a week in Poipu and Princeville in Hawaii where we spent the first week of our honeymoon… and go pineapple and papaya picking.  We’d eat pizza with pineapples and pepperoni.  We’d get a Pohaku Massage …. you get the gist right?

I love this idea because it allows you to get creative… creative with how you’re going to spend time together celebrating your special day.

I hope you guys love this idea too and I’d love to hear from you if you guys use our A to Z Anniversary tradition too.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. So glad I found this before getting married! We started with “A” on number one and every time I see something starting with “B,” I think about if it could be incorporated into number two! For “A” we had apple muffins for breakfast, spent aquatic time at the pool, ate dinner at Anamia’s, followed with almond champagne and almond cake for dessert, got an aragonite candle holder, and watched “Almost Famous.”

  2. I love this idea! Would be a unique idea for newlyweds. Wish I was still married so we could do this. Thanks for sharing!

  3. So we are celebrating our 10th anniversary this year. I really like this idea. Should we start with the 10th letter or just begin with the A?

    1. I could give you more specific location suggestions if I knew what part of the country you resided. In Southern California we could go to Ventura (city or county), the Venice Beach area in Los Angeles County or Vista in San Diego County. You could find a restaurant with a name that starts with the letter “V” or a specific type of cuisine such as Venezuelan, Vietnamese, vegan or vegetarian. You could order something specific such as vichyssoise soup, a salad with vinaigrette, a dish with vermicelli pasta, veal, vegetable soup, vegetarian chili or a veggie burger. For dessert you might order red velvet cake with vanilla ice cream. For an activity you could go to a vineyard, learn the Viennese Waltz, take a voyage (cruise) or visit a volcano. You could watch a movie such as Valentine’s Day (2010), Valkyrie (2008), Vanilla Sky (2001), Vantage Point (2008), V for Vendetta (2006), Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008), The Village (2004) or The Vow (2012). Some gift ideas would be, as you suggested, violets in a Victorian vase, a video camera, a video game or something from Vermont Teddy Bear Co. or Victoria’s Secret and pay for it all with your Visa card.

  4. oh man, i’m with you on princeville and pineapples. i had pineapples on my burger and it was so good.

so this is such a cute idea, and one i think will make anniversaries even more special. i had a similar thought regarding vacations-we went to aruba, and then alaska-things starting and ending in a, so i thought how fun this would be to work our way thru the alphabet….except i couldn’t think of anything starting and ending with b. or c, for that matter. so that’s off the table, now. lol.

    1. Thats what I was thinking, we’re on 25 next August, so i was trying to think of another way
of doing this, but all Ive come up with is to have a time to reminisce (& write down & print it & frame it?) about what you did on the 1st anniversary that starts with A & year 2 -B, 3 -C, and so on…? For example ‘on our 1st anniversary we went to Augusta for the day & had fried avacado (not really, but itll get you thinking about every moment!), year 2 we had burgers & then went bowling, etc… Then it gets you remembering (or forgetting!?!) all those special or not so special moments. Any other ideas would be great! Thanks!
