Installing Pergo Flooring
A huge thanks to Pergo for partnering with Domestically Speaking in our flooring makeover. Friends… I can’t believe I’m finally getting to share with you guys the BIG DIY project we’ve been tackling in our home. We’re ripping out all the old / ugly / original tile, carpet and linoleum in the downstair’s of our home and installing Pergo flooring. I can’t tell you how good it felt to see that ugly, old carpet gone and to see a cement floor instead. Now deciding which Pergo flooring we wanted to install was hard!
Installing Pergo Flooring
These were the samples I picked to check out. {Affiliate links included for your convenience} They are some of the Pergo Outlast + flooring options. Maybe you’ve seen the commercials?? The flooring that’s 24 hour water resistant! That was a HUGE plus in my book for the flooring I wanted to install in our downstairs. It’s going into our kitchen, our laundry room and our downstair’s bathroom…. and I love that I don’t have to worry about it. So back to picking our color… it was HARD! So many gorgeous options. We ended up going with the one in the center… Vintage Tobacco Oak… which I’m LOVING! I love the variety of shades from medium to dark brown tones… plus it has a hint of gray, which we have a lot of downstairs.
Friends I love demo! My kiddos are loving demo too. Nothing feels better than yanking up the cheap, ugly linoleum and breaking up the tile you’ve been wanting to get rid of since we moved in 9 years ago.
We’ve been working room to room. Since we have a home full of furniture and we’re living in it, this has been the easiest plan.
Installing Pergo Flooring Prep Steps:
- Move all furniture out of the room you’re working in (we just shoved it into another nearby room)
- Clear out the currently flooring
- Carpet
- carpet removal – we used a knife cutter and sliced the carpet into 3 foot wide strips – rolled them up with the padding and removed
- carpet tacking strips – you’ll need to remove those around the outside of the room. We used a flat headed screwdriver and a hammer to remove.
- Linoleum
- we used a flat ended shovel to get most of the linoleum up
- once you get a section started you can use your hands to pull a chunk off
- we used 4″ wide razor scraper to get off the little pieces
- Cleaning up the floor
- I crawled around making sure the floor was smooth and that there was no glue, carpet, tile or linoleum remains. I used the razor scraper for anything that was still stuck to the cement
- then I went over the area with a push broom
- then followed up with our wet/dry shop vac
- Carpet
- Once the floor was clean and clear we laid out the moisture barrier.
- Now the installing fun can begin!
Prepping the space and some of the crazy cuts is the hardest part of installing flooring…. the rest just flows along.
We started in our family room in the back, left corner of our home… then flowed into our kitchen and then the kitchen nook.
Here’s some photos of the progress we’ve made.
Oh and yes your home will be in chaos during this process… all worth it in the long-run, right!
We’re so close to getting it finished and I can’t wait to share with you guys. Here’s a little video I made to show you guys the easy install process using Pergo Outlast +.
A big thanks for Pergo in partnering with me on our new flooring. As always all opinions expressed are my own.
Which color is the first sample on the picture?
On the left.
I absolutely LOVE the one to the right on your pick! Do you remember the name of it?
Did you seal around the perimeter with foam and silicone sealant? I just had it laid down but the installers didn’t not do that part. I’m trying to decide if it’s worth it to rip the molding out and seal myself.
Hi Amber! No, we didn’t. We haven’t had any issues.
Looks beautiful! Has it held up well? This is the exact floor and color that I am choosing for most of my upstairs. So hoping I have no regret!
Darcy it’s holding up beautifully!!! We love it!!!
In one of your pictures you had an amazing coat/purse/catch all kind of shelf with hooks. Where oh where did you get that? It is awesome!
Sara I found that at HomeGoods years ago. I’ve seen similar ones there recently though.
What is the order of your samples? Which ones are showing in the picture? Thanks!
Looks beautiful. I had Pergo Original about 20 years ago in my kitchen and it was fantastic. Moved into a new house 3 years ago and installed Pergo Max, but am so disappointed with the quality. Pergo Original was great, wish they wouldn’t of had to change.
I love Pergo flooring! We had it in our old house and it was so durable! These are great tips. Thanks for sharing with us at Merry Monday this week.
Looks wonderful! I would love to do this in my den.
Looks amazing!! What a big difference it’s going to make! Love Pergo’s selection and styles!
Beautiful choices! It looks great in your home. Thanks for all the tips.
I absolutely love it!!!
What a difference. That flooring is beautiful . . . Pergo has come such a long way!! I love it!
Remodeling is a pain but so worth it in the end. Santa will like it! Kitty is the best supervisor ever! All the best…. Merry Christmas?
That is going to be such a change, a beautiful one at that. We have some Pergo in a game room that we put in, gosh…..maybe 20 years ago. Other than what I chose is no loner my taste and there are so many more styles to choose from now, the stuff still looks great!
