Countdown to Summer #1 ~ Americana

Thanks for Sharing!

Only 4 weeks left till summer officially starts  (at least in the Northern Hemisphere).

Along with beachy tones, summer screams of red, white and blue to me.  Here in the USA the unofficial start of summer is Memorial Day and the unofficial ending is Labor Day & of course you’ve got the 4th of July sandwiched there in the middle.

So, in honor of Memorial Day tomorrow I thought I’d share with you my Americana transformation of my son’s blue barn star.

When I original bought this on clearance at Lowes it was this shade…

A dark navy blue.  My son’s room has an all-American, baseball lovin’ theme… so I thought why not transform his barn star to an Americana American flag.

I just needed creamy white and red paint… thankfully I had that in my stash.   I decided to make a star sponge stamp for my stars.  I took a sponge and drew a star on top and then just cut it out.  I used a small brush to fill in the stars(because it was a bit splotchy looking with just the stamping).

I distressed it a bit.

You gotta have Old Glory in a baseball room!

So, now it’s your turn… how are you getting ready for summer?

Rules are simple… anything summer related!

  1. Great transformation, MaryAnn! I really like how the star looks now. And, the fact that it is a reuse makes it even better.

Be sure to stop by the cottage and check out the three new linky parties I'm starting up tonight, June 1st.

  2. Hi Maryann! I actually thought of you and your beach area in your home as I was making these. 🙂 I grew up on the beach but am now a mountain girl! I am keeping some of the beach with me by having a beach theme in my bathroom. We started our summer by taking a vacation to Tybee Island where I found the shells to make these balls…I hope that qualifies as "summer" 🙂
    Thanks for hosting!

  3. whoo hoo first one! THanks for hosting this party! I have been a busy getting my stuff ready for summer…your flag star looks GREAT too!
