Gray and White Painted Kitchen Cabinets Makeover
Hi Friends! I’m so excited to share with you guys my painted cabinets!!!!! I’ve been wanting to paint our kitchen cabinets since we moved in six years ago… so this is a glorious moment! There’s still LOTS to do in our kitchen makeover, but the time consuming painting part is done… can I get an AMEN! Later next week I’ll have all the details on how I painted them, but I couldn’t wait any longer to share…. Here are my Painted Kitchen Cabinets!
I had started cutting in the walls with primer before they were painted gray in the before shot… but you can get the gist. We had maple, builder grade cabinets and the walls were green.
I went with a gorgeous white for the main cabinet upper and lowers. You can see I’ve started with the hardware (details on those gorgeous things in a later post).
For the island I went with a shade darker than the color I painted on the kitchen walls.
I love the island color!
Here’s the details on the gorgeous paint colors I went with, all by Sherwin-Williams:
Kitchen Wall Color: Sherwin-Williams Emerald Paint in Knitting Needles (SW 7672)
Main Kitchen Cabinets Lowers & Uppers: Sherwin-Williams ProClassic in Snowbound (SW 7004)
Kitchen Island: Sherwin Williams ProClassic in Summit Gray (SW 7669)
I love these colors. The Snowbound is a pretty pure white with a slight gray undertone. Knitting Needles is a pretty true gray. Both leave the room with a clean, calm feeling.
Of course this is just phase 1… here’s what’s still on the agenda…
I can’t tell you how different the kitchen feels. I LOVE the difference that painted kitchen cabinets make and can’t wait for the next step… counters!
Thanks for stopping by friends!
**Disclaimer: I received paint from Sherwin-Williams for our kitchen makeover. The opinions expressed are 100% mine though.
I have high end cabinets that have a lacquered finish. They are 25 years old and starting to chip. My local paint store told me I would never achieve the finish they currently have with paint. Am torn with what to do – any advice?
Wow! Wow! Wow!! I love your makeover – you must be grinning from ear to ear at how beautiful it turned out! I went with gray’s for wall color too and love it! Stunning girlfriend!
WOW! I said that REALLY LOUD. What a beautiful transformation! They look like completely different cabinets, Maryann. I love your accents as well…the shiny silver handles are gorgeous. I also love your new window treatments. It all looks likes you now!! By the way…the counters still look great as well. Nice, work…I bet you are thrilled!
Awe thanks Julie!!! I am loving it!
Love the new look!! I’m a pretty new follower of your blog and am enjoying your makeover posts as I am in the middle of making over my own new home!
Welcome Helen!
Wow Maryann, your kitchen looks so beautiful!! What a difference with the cabinets and wall colour, gorgeous colours you’ve picked.
I love the colors you chose and the hardware looks fabulous!
Wow, what a difference! It looks gorgeous already!
Maryann! Your kitchen is beautiful. I love the gray and white!

Did you paint the inside?
Beautiful!!
What a wonderful change! Enjoy your “new” kitchen!:)
Oh Maryann… BRAVO on all the hard work. It looks beautiful. Fresh and pretty and just gorgeous!! You picked great colors and I like the darker island. Good choice. I bet you are just smitten :)))) Congrats on a project well done!!
Love the colors you used. Looks so much brighter and just beautiful!
Thank you Krista! It does make the room for SO much brighter!
I love what you’ve done and I have been dreaming of painting my cabinets since I moved in almost 5 years ago, but two issues: I hate the arched design on the upper cabinet doors and paint won’t change that, and the floors are a light honey color and they don’t match the color scheme in my head. I guess I have to rip the whole room apart 😉
Beth is the arch design molding that could be removed?? I’m replacing pretty much everything in our kitchen to get the look I want. It will take some time as we are DIY’ing it. But we’ll get there!
Unfortunately it’s a recessed panel so there is nothing to remove 🙁
looks great, i love the gray on the island…and how funny is your new lighting. those are some skills!
Thanks 🙂 I wish I could just draw it all and it would magically appear!
We are in the middle of painting our cabinets as well! It’s quite an undertaking but so worth it. Yours came out beautifully!
Thank you Helen… yes it’s a HUGE undertaking… but SO worth it!
Can you believe how popular grays are now? Why didn’t we love it before designers told us it was so great? The clean look of grays really gets me, guess that means I’m a “cool”. I tend to love colors that are cool.
Your cupboards and walls look so fantastic, I’m very envious. I’ve waited almost 8 yrs. to get faux wood mobile home cupboards painted. Ugh, really don’t like them at all. The gal that had our house before us left grease all over them so I had to scrub myself silly trying to clean vinyl on them. What a job. Vinyl on walls also. I have my work cut out for me.
I recently bought light gray background with a white brocade design on curtains. When I hung them finally the difference in our living room was so dramatic, so clean and bright in room. Now have to banish all the tans in room to convert to gray, light aqua. Thought about painting walls a light aqua but think a light gray will work much better in long run. Since we have walls running into other rooms I have to be consistent. Can hardly wait to even get started. Have to buy paint first.
Absolutely love how your rooms look with grays. So pretty and clean, soft.
I’m loving gray too… It is a very calming color.
I love how it turned out so far. Big difference.
Thanks Julie!
Your kitchen looks amazing! I’ve been thinking about painting mine, but I’m so nervous! And I love the grey 🙂
Go for it Catherine!!! I’m be doing a post (hopefully later this week) on all the steps I took. Mainly it’s just very time consuming!
Wow, it is just beautiful! I love the white mixed with the grey, simply gorgeous! I know how much work you put into it and it sure paid off 🙂 Happy Easter friend
