90’s Kitchen Window Shelf Born Again…
Did any of you get married in the late 90’s and register for one of these kitchen window shelves?
They were all the rage when we got married… cute at the time, but mine has been sitting in the garage since we moved here 2 years ago. A few weeks ago when we had a garage organization party (wahoo) I came across it again & INSPIRATION hit. Don’t you love when that happens. I suddenly saw what this sad, dusty and abandoned shelf was meant to be.
Why a new coat rack of course! I had found hooks at Lowes on clearance for 82 cents a few weeks ago, so I was set for this project.
I popped off the legs, did a little sanding, a few coats of 97 cent black spray paint from Lowes and a coat Krylon’s Satin Black and she was on her way.
Attached my coat rack hooks, but she needed a little more…
I added an inviting “Welcome” for my guests to hang their coats. To do this I just printed out “Welcome” in Word in the font and size I needed. Then I just traced on top with pencil to leave an indent (you have to push hard). Then I painted on top with some creamy vanilla acrylic paint.
I love being able to transform something I would have sold at a garage sale or donated into something I needed… Satisfaction!
I’m linking this up to Kimba’s DIY party ~ See you there…

I absolutely love how that turned out. Good for you for seeing the potential in that shelf. The hooks and hand painted detail really make this piece special.
really fun! Great job. Kelly
Hey Maryanne. I'm having one of those "why didn't I ever think of that" moments. Great idea – it turned out beautiful!
Merry Christmas and Hugs…Tracy 🙂
What a great makeover. I love the welcome letters you added to it, so cute.
AWESOME! My shelf(the EXACT same one) broke a few years back and I've been holding onto it, just waiting for its repurpose to jump up and tell me what it is! This is a great idea, thanks for sharing!
Another cute project. I like the addition of "Welcome".
Awesome makeover!
Great reuse! The 'welcome' was the perfect touch.
Nice couches, I especially love the leather.
Hello Maryann ~I've just strolled in for my first visit…I've enjoyed taking a peek at your past posts. You've got so many wonderful ideas. Your blog is so beautifully inviting.
We share similar taste for so many of the same creative design elements.
As fall came to a close I looked forward to winter (that's fast approaching), bringing a festive inspiration for a few DIY decorations and gifts. With a little baking in between.
Don't you love the aroma that fills the air during this season?
My cat also appreciates the evergreens and an occasional ping pong toss of my (newly created and not yet dried) ornaments…
I've bookmarked you in my favs.
I look forward to coming by your charming blog again.
Come by for a visit. Your company would be nice.
Sweet holiday wishes,
Sara
I love a good repurpose! 🙂

You bet I had one of those – so handy but it didn't last long in my home.
Love what you did with it. Great job.
This turned out great and I love the "Welcome" you painted on it! The cost involved sounds pretty great, too.
I'm a sucker for hooks – I have way too many around the home. Love how you have yours.
Great re-purpose! I love it when I can reuse something in such a great way! Great job!
Great idea! I have some old shelves from the 90's I wasn't sure what to do with, now I'm inspired!
Wow, that's so cute! You have a lot of amazing stuff here! Thanks for stopping by World of Dennifer!
Awesome idea for that sad little shelf!
Great redo. Very creative!
Very cute! I've been thinking about doing some hooks in my back entryway and something like this would be perfect!
Having gotten married in the mid-80's, I had never seen a shelf like this (I know. I'm old!). But judging from the photos I must say Good Job! How resourceful of you to turn that unused shelf into this adorable coat rack.
By the way, the sofas on your wish list are just beautiful. I hope you get what you want!
What a great use for that little shelf! It is super cute.
SO much better! It looks great…good job!!
