Burlap and Galvanized Metal Gather Sign
It’s Burlap Season.
Well, technically its Fall but to me that also means burlap.
So, I was thrilled when Maryann asked me to take part if her
Burlap Lovers Series.
Twenty one bloggers will be sharing their best
DIY Burlap posts and I am honored to be a part of it all.
Let’s call it Burlapalooza.
😀
You know what I love as much as burlap?
Easy projects!
As in “30-minutes or less” easy projects.
I needed a small sign above my farmhouse sink,
and after tirelessly searching for one that was the
perfect fit, I finally gave up and decided to make one on my own.
Here is how to make a
Farmhouse Style
Burlap and Galvanized ” Gather” Sign.
I started with a 6″ wide piece of luan paneling from Lowes.
It is about 36″ long. You will need to decide how long your board
needs to be, based upon the letters you spell out.

Don’t worry if you don’t have a way to cut it, just ask your
friendly Lowe’s staff to do it for you.

I found these 4″ Galvanized Letters at Hobby Lobby.
They were regularly $2.99 each but I waited until
they went 40% off.
I already had the burlap.

I started out by cutting the burlap about 1.5″ larger all around
than the board. I didn’t even measure. I just rough cut it.
Using a stapler, I simply folded the burlap around to the back of the
wood and stapled it on.

I treated the corners like you would a package
then trimmed the excess fabric a bit.

If the unfinished backside bothers you, you can cut some felt
or leftover fabric and glue it on.
But, this is a 30-min project remember? 🙂

I went ahead and added a sawtooth hanger on each side.
Much easier to add before I attached the lettering.

Painters tape was used to create a straight line guide.
Then, I simply spaced the letters where I needed them,
and hot glued them in place.

I decided last minute to add some small cording to the outer edge.
I had some assorted ribbons, but they were a bit too wide.
This leftover cording was perfect!

I may replace this later with some galvanized upholstery tacks.
That’s it!
Not including my trip to Lowes to get the board –
(I was already there anyway so it wasn’t a special trip)
I had this project completed start to finish in about 30 minutes.

It works perfectly above my farmhouse sink doesn’t it?
