Peace, Joy and Love Pillow Pottery Barn Inspired
Happy Friday Friends and welcome to those who may have popped on in from The Scoop on Creating a Homemade Christmas. I’m so excited to be apart of this awesome party sharing ways to make handmade goodies for Christmas. Today I’m sharing with you guys how I made my Pottery Barn inspired Peace, Joy and Love Burlap Pillow.
Today myself and four other awesome bloggers are kicking off this awesome blog hop. At the end of my post you can find links to all the participants.
So let’s get to the tutorial on this festive pillow. Have you seen Pottery Barn’s pillow? I adore Pottery Barn… in fact it’s like Christmas when the mailman brings me their catalog (which isn’t often – apparently my mailman is keeping mine – long story) I used burlap from my massive roll of burlap that I use to create my burlap signs, but you could easily makes this with less than a half of yard of fabric.
First step was picking a font and creating the words. I used a word processing program and printed them out in the lightest gray (as not to waste ink). Now if you have a fancy cutting machine you can create your words with your machine… I went old school style with freezer paper and an x-acto blade. I used painters tape to hold the paper with the words and the freezer paper to my cutting board. You can see detailed photos and directions on freezer paper pillows on my seahorse pillow tutorial. It really doesn’t take too long. I was finished before a 30 minute dvr’ed show was finished (no commercial watching)… so it’s pretty quick.
Once you have the letters cut out you iron the freezer paper to the burlap on a no steam setting.
Then I used acrylic paint mixed with a fabric medium and painted over the exposed letters.
I let the paint dry about 30 minutes and peeled off the freezer paper to reveal the oh-so-cute pillow.
I hand stitched this pillow together. I seriously think the sewing took the longest… darn sewing machine was off being fixed by my mom.
I love it! It’s a great addition to your Christmas décor and would make a great Christmas gift too.
You can see that the freezer paper really makes some nice crisp lines.
If you’ve been around my blog you know I adore burlap. I love the pillow paired with this fuzzy gray throw. The soft and fluffy contrasted with the rustic, textured burlap.
Well friends I hope you’ve been inspired and I’m sure you will be as you check out all the other Homemade Christmas Goodies that will be shared.
Thanks for stopping by friends!

Thanks Doreen! Yes… adore knock-offs!
Wow. This is a great knockoff. It’s identical to the Pottery Barn version.
And someday, you have to share the story about your mailman keeping your catalogs. Sounds like it could be funny.
Lol… I totally should do a blog post on it… but I’m afraid that if the USPS reads my blog I might not getting any of my mail anymore 🙂 Basically I wasn’t getting any of my catalogs so I called my local post office to let them know. Their response… we have a bin full of catalogs… you’re more than welcome to come down here and see if you can find it! WHAT??? It’s address to me! I kindly ask why but was given no reasoning. I’ve complained multiple times. It’s become a huge joke when I open the mailbox and actually find a catalog… serious Christmas joy! Crazy, right?
Lovely pillow, thanks for joining our tour.
Thanks Anita ~ so happy to be a part of it!
