Burlap Lampshade with Grommets and Ribbon

Thanks for Sharing!

Hi Friends!  I love a challenge.  So when Lamps.com asked me to be a part of their decorate a lampshade contest I jumped at the chance.  Those who’ve been around my blog for a while know I adore burlap, so that was a given in my decor idea, but then I thought… how fun would it be with some grommets?

Let me show you what I started with…

Lamp Shade Makeover

A basic white drum shade.

First I had to figure out how to make the holes in the shade… and guess what a basic hole punch worked great!

Now the grommets I wanted to use were bigger than the hole from my hole punch, so I used a craft scissors and cut slits around the circle to enlarge it a bit.

Burlap Lampshade with Grommets and Ribbon, adding the grommets

After hot gluing the burlap fabric to the shade I pounded in the grommets.

I threaded some gorgeous striped satin ribbon through the grommets… so pretty!

It adds such an interesting flare with the grommets and ribbon.

The burlap always gets my attention but the ribbon thru the grommets sealed the deal for me. Will be trying this on a burlap shade I already have which we spray painted deep aqua. Have some ribbon with deep aqua, brown and white stripes, perfecto. Such a great idea and look. Will go now to vote for you. tata

I think I’m going to make something similar for my baby’s room. I have a sully question though because I’ve never made a lampshade before. . . Do you use hot glue over the whole shade or only on the seams? I would think that hot glue would leave lumpy ridges, but your looks completely smooth and flat.
    Thanks!
