9 DIY Thanksgiving Centerpiece Ideas and Table Decorations
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of year to gather with family and friends, enjoy a delicious meal, and make our homes feel extra welcoming. And one of my favorite ways to get ready for the holiday is by adding a few special touches to the Thanksgiving table.

You don’t have to spend a fortune on new decorations to create a beautiful holiday tablescape. A little creativity, some natural fall elements, and a few handmade projects can go a long way!
Today I’m sharing some of my favorite DIY Thanksgiving table decorations and centerpiece ideas from right here on Domestically Designed. From personalized place cards and rustic centerpieces to pretty pumpkins and cozy candle accents, these projects are easy ways to bring a little handmade charm to your holiday gathering.
Whether you love a rustic farmhouse look, warm autumn colors, or something a little more elegant, I hope you’ll find a project or two that inspires you!
1. DIY Corn Husk and Chalkboard Place Cards
Personalized place cards are such a fun way to make your Thanksgiving guests feel special. These DIY Corn Husk and Chalkboard Place Cards combine inexpensive picture frames, natural corn husks, and chalkboard laminate to create charming little place card holders.

I love the texture the corn husks add, and the chalkboard centers make it easy to personalize each one with your guests’ names.
Another fun idea is to use these little frames to label dishes on a Thanksgiving buffet. Just change the wording from guest names to the names of your favorite holiday dishes!

2. Easy Nesting Box Thanksgiving Centerpiece
If you’re looking for a centerpiece that makes a statement without requiring a lot of work, you’ll love this Easy Nesting Box Thanksgiving Centerpiece.

I used several nesting boxes, stacked and turned them to create an interesting arrangement. Then I filled the boxes with pumpkins, brown bottles, and other fall decorations.
I love how the different heights create a little visual interest while still leaving room for the rest of the table.
This is also a great project because you can change out the decorations inside the boxes to coordinate with your Thanksgiving color scheme.

3. Fall Centerpiece with Burlap Ribbon
For a rustic Thanksgiving table, this Fall Centerpiece with Burlap Ribbon is a lovely option.

This simple project uses two square boxes, fall leaf garlands, fall picks, and burlap ribbon to create a warm autumn centerpiece.
I especially love the natural texture of the burlap paired with the colorful fall leaves. It’s an easy way to add a little farmhouse charm to your dining table.
You could even coordinate the centerpiece with burlap napkin rings, neutral table linens, and a few small pumpkins for a cohesive Thanksgiving look.

I love decorating with pumpkins in the fall, and these DIY Velvet Pumpkins are a fun way to add a little softness and texture to your Thanksgiving table.

Made with inexpensive foam pumpkins and velvet fabric, these little pumpkins have a beautiful high-end look without the high-end price tag.
You can customize them with different velvet colors to coordinate with your table linens and other decorations. Try creamy whites, warm browns, muted greens, or rich fall colors.
Group several pumpkins together in the center of your table, or place a smaller pumpkin at each guest’s place setting for a pretty seasonal accent.

I love the look of hobnail milk glass, and turning a thrift store find into a decorative candle is a fun way to give an inexpensive piece a whole new purpose.

7. DIY Wood Bowl Candle
A thrift store find can become a beautiful piece of home decor with a little creativity. This DIY Wood Bowl Candle is a great example!

I found a wooden bowl at a thrift store and transformed it into a unique decorative piece using candle-making supplies.
The natural wood adds warmth and works especially well with rustic, farmhouse, and neutral fall decorating styles.
For a Thanksgiving display, you could use the finished piece as a decorative centerpiece accent alongside pumpkins and other seasonal decorations. If you plan to light a candle, make sure the vessel is specifically designed and tested for candle use; an ordinary wooden bowl is best enjoyed as an unlit decorative piece.

8. Thrift Store Stained Apple Bucket
I love finding inexpensive items at thrift stores and giving them a completely new look. This Thrift Store Stained Apple Bucket is a fun example of how a simple basket can become a charming fall decorating accent.

The project uses a wood glue and stain technique to create a pretty aged finish with a decorative design.
For Thanksgiving, you could use the finished basket as part of a buffet display or on a nearby console table. Fill it with faux apples, small pumpkins, or fall stems to bring a little harvest-inspired charm into your home.
It’s a great way to incorporate a rustic element without buying something new.

Tips for Creating a Beautiful Thanksgiving Tablescape
Now that you’ve found a few projects to try, here are some simple tips for putting together a Thanksgiving table that feels welcoming and festive.
Choose a Color Palette
Start by choosing two or three main colors for your table. Traditional fall colors like burnt orange, deep red, golden yellow, and brown are always beautiful.
If you prefer a more neutral look, try cream, soft white, muted green, and natural wood tones.
Having a general color palette makes it easier to coordinate your centerpiece, place cards, napkins, and other decorations.
Mix Different Textures
One of my favorite ways to make a table feel more interesting is by mixing textures.
Try combining:
– Burlap and natural fabrics
– Velvet pumpkins
– Rustic wood
– Metallic accents
– Glass bottles and candleholders
– Natural leaves and greenery
You don’t need everything to match perfectly. A little variety makes a tablescape feel more collected and personal.
Create a Centerpiece with Varying Heights
A centerpiece doesn’t have to be one large arrangement. Try grouping several smaller decorations together at different heights.
Use nesting boxes, small pumpkins, decorative bottles, and seasonal accents to create a display that has a little dimension.
Just remember to keep the arrangement low enough that guests can easily see one another across the table!
Add Personal Touches
Little details can make your Thanksgiving table feel extra special.
Personalized place cards are a wonderful way to welcome guests, and you can even use them to assign seats or label dishes on a buffet.
You could also add a handwritten thank-you note or a small favor at each place setting.
Leave Room for the Food!
This might be the most important tip of all! Thanksgiving dinner usually involves plenty of serving dishes, so make sure your decorations don’t take over the entire table.
If you’re short on space, use a smaller centerpiece or move some of your decorations to a nearby buffet or side table.
I like the idea of keeping the main centerpiece simple and adding smaller decorative touches around the dining room.
