How to Make a No-Sew Patriotic Burlap Table Runner

Prepping the burlap

Let’s get started on this festival table runner. I started by folding over the edge of the burlap and cutting 1” slits at one inch intervals. Having a good fabric scissors makes this really quick and easy.

Once both sides were done, I gave the piece of burlap a good ironing. You can see the edge has a little fringe showing.

Adding the Ribbon

I picked out a red and white small stripe ribbon and a blue on blue striped ribbon for this project. The blues are a navy blue and a royal blue (love the combo). Then I slid the ribbon through the slits that I had cut in the burlap. Just weave the ribbon up and down from one side to the other side.

To finish off the ends of the ribbons I just tied them off with a few knots.

Tips for Customizing Your Burlap Table Runner

  • Change Ribbon Colors: Use different ribbon shades for other holidays, like green and red for Christmas or orange and black for Halloween.
  • Add Embellishments: Glue on star-shaped patches or stenciled designs for extra flair.
  • Prevent Fraying: Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge or Stop Fraying along the burlap edges for durability.
