Frilly Dress turned Frilly Pillow

Thanks for Sharing!

A frilly dress turned frilly pillow. So, I had a laundry disaster a few months back! One of my youngest daughter’s frilly, fancy dresses got tossed in the dryer…

Shrunk Dress turned Pillow

and as you can see the overlay shrunk BIG-TIME. Thankfully she got all the wear she was going to out of it.  Winter was over and she wasn’t going to fit in it next year.  I didn’t want to just toss it… I knew at some point inspiration would hit.

So this last week it hit… a bolster pillow cover!

Silk fabric from an old dress

So I took the scissors to the bottom of the dress.  I took the bottom layer of the dress (inside out) and put it inside the bolster pillow and cut the excess material, leaving just enough for a seam.  Then I used Heat & Bond on the edge that I cut… a little ironing and I had a lovely seam.  My kind of sewing!

Then I right-sided the fabric and inserted it back into the pillow.

The overlay was cut into 4 strips.

I used the frilly overlay to make some cute flowers.

How to Make a Pillow from an Old Dress

I used the ties from the dress to tie off each side of the cover…

Girly Silk Pillow

You can see in this photo that I just folded the other side of the fabric to close it… that way I can easily remove the cover if I need to clean it.

Cute Silk Fabric Flowers

The flowers were just stitched on with a needle and thread.

Frilly Pillow

This little pretty is on my youngest daughter’s bed…she’s lovin’ her frilly little pillow! So fun with this Frilly Dress turned Frilly Pillow!

Lemonade from Lemons — The pillow is so soft and sweet and looks so feminine. I'm glad you thought of this idea. It would have been a shame to get ride of it. Dog gone laundry mishaps turned this into a one-of-a-kind pillow. Thanks for sharing this at the Boardwalk Bragfest, Maryann!

  17. Beautiful!! And the roses are gorgeous!!
I love making different things out of old (but still somewhat useful) clothing. I recently made a pillow out of my favorite white cable knit sweater that I've washed so many times that it just simply lost its shape. It is one of the softest and most comfortable pillows ever!!
Thanks so much for sharing :))
