DIY Pedestal Coffee Table
I’ve got a DIY Pedestal Coffee Table to share with you! Hello again! Sarah, from Little Red Brick House, and I’m going to show you how I took a dining room table and turned it into a pedestal coffee table!
DIY Pedestal Coffee Table
I wanted a round coffee table for the living room but I wasn’t having any luck finding one that I liked on Craigslist or our local classifieds. After seeing a pedestal dining table listed, I knew it would be perfect for what I was looking for. I just had to make it shorter.
First, I took the table apart with a socket wrench. I kept all of the hardware in a cup so that I wouldn’t lose it.
Then I had my husband cut both ends of the pedestal base off. We used those parts to create a new, shorter base. Plus, that is where the hardware that secures it to the table top is located. Don’t want to get rid of that!
Then we drilled pocket holes with a Kreg Jig, so we could join the two end pieces from the previous table base.
After joining those two pieces, we secured the legs back on.
The final step was to reattach the table top.
We left it like that for a while but then I decided that I wanted to paint the base and leave the top stained. So, I painted the base with Vanilla Frosting from Country Chic Paint. It’s chalk paint so I didn’t even have to sand! I love how it turned out!
I love how you can really see the detail on the apron now. The white base also helps make the table stand out from the floor.

I love your project but I don’t understand how to add the screws back on to the base that will hold the top on. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

That was an amazing transformation. Painting the base white was a very good choice. Really made the details pop!

Now if I could just find a round table to make coffee table into. For few years now have been using an outdoor faux wicker coffee table we painted white. An getting pretty tired of it however, would love to have something different in our small living room. We do have a pqallet wood outdoor very rustic coffee table Mr.Furry made few years ago. It’s got nice cubby holes on all sides of it so would be good to keep table tidy and hide all my goodies in it.
Just need to sand it good, give it some paint and bring it in on it’s chunky casters. Not the best space saver but at least would be something different for while.
When I mentioned this while ago Mr.Furry said no but think will do it anyway. Maybe rearrange l/v room make it better for table. That is until find a round table. Great project.
Beautiful work. Just beautiful. I only have one question. You wrote, “Then I had my husband cut both ends of the pedestal base off”. My question is why did you “have your husband” cut the wood? You can do that part too. Be careful but you can do that part too.
Hi I wanted to do this to a old table but I was wondering if you filled in the seem where the leaves go in to make the table larger. I would like it to look like one solid round table.

This looks fabulous. I love it. My daughter gave me an old pub round pub table…actually she returned it to me. I thought about making a coffee table out of it…but feared it would be too large for my living room. Seeing yours makes me want to do it any how. You have definitely inspired me. What a great idea! I have a round pedestal Ikea table I’m using as a dining table right now but know that I’ll probably replace it with something nicer in the future. This would be a great repurpose for it as an amazing coffee table.
